Willie Survives the Collapse

It was confirmed today that the Mets will retain Willie Randolph as their General Manager, which is the right decision. He's the one guy that's responsible for the good things this season. The Mets did an organizational face lift 2 years ago that tried to build the Mets from the ground up, basing it on Yankee-like values. Randolph was a Yankee and will always be a Yankee, so he's brought Joe Torre's mentality and way of managing to the Mets dugout. This gave the team a sense of camaraderie. Guys got along with each other. They weren't just teammates, but friends... like Torre's Yankees. However, this system only works if you have a team made up with the right personalities. The Mets obviously don't because they had guys throughout the year acting cocky and overconfident during interviews. I think what the Mets should have done 2 years ago was replace the management and not the players. Think about how successful this team would be if Randolph had guys like Mike Piazza, Mike Cameron, Richard Hidalgo, Todd Zeile, Shane Spencer, the list goes on. These guys aren't as physically talented as the current team, but they play the game the right way. A coachable team has great chemistry. Remember that many of the Yankees championship teams had high chemistry and almost no star power. I'm glad the good guys like David Wright and Jose Reyes didn't get mixed up in the arrogant quotes.

Enough about the team of the future. I can go back to them when we actually reach the future. Stay tuned for the postseason, featuring the team of the present, the pride of New York... the Yankees.
