Just Go

HELMET: Good. Let's get moving.

SANDURZ: Yes, sir. Driver, prepare to move out.

HELMET: What are you preparing. You're always preparing. Just go!

SANDURZ: Just go.

DRIVER: Yes, sir.

That was from an old classic, Spaceballs, but it reflects project management in the business world. In the movie, Dark Helmet's men are always following orders and give a play by play of what they're doing. Before they actually do something, they announce that they're preparing to do it. If someone did that in real life, they'd be wasting valuable time that adds up. This happens all the time in the office. Instead of just gutting it out and doing the job, teams often overprepare with paperwork, meetings, project management software, to do lists, etc. How about just doing it? That's the only way to accomplish anything. No one wants to say it, but most project management positions are just bull#$%^. If the team is made up of self-motivated, skilled workers there's no need for a project manager.
