Back in December, I picked the MSI Wind as the best netbook. That's changed now that the N280 processor is available and many manufacturers have not jumped on it. The original netbook company, ASUS got on it right away with the Eee PC 1000 HE. You can find it on sale for as low as $350. It has the new processor and about 7 hours of battery life. The rest of the specs are the same old 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD and 6-cell battery. The design is also better than the other with a spill-resistant chiclet keyboard that's surprisingly comfortable to type with. It's close enough to full size that typos are minimal. The touch pad is multitouch. It's a bit heavier than most 10" models, but that favors the durability of the system. The internal speakers are pretty good as well. I credit that to the solid case material. Laptops that are lighter and made from cheap plastic often vibrate when volumes get too high. The Eee PC 1000 HE has it all right now. I don't see any competition coming up either. Many new netbooks are going for thin and light, but sacrifice battery life. If there's a system that has 7 hours, I can't shop for one that lasts only 3 hours... no matter how thin it is.
