We already knew it was coming, but it was official today that Yao Ming has retired from the NBA. It's really sad that things didn't work out because he was just beginning to dominate as he started getting injured. He was clearly the best center in the league from his 3rd year in. His numbers are roughly 19 pts and 9 rebs... just shy of Hall of Fame numbers. If he had another 7 years left in his career, he surely would have raised those as he was doing 25 pts and 11 rebs just before the injuries.
This is also a big blow to Chinese basketball, because he's done so much for the sport and inspired many. Hopefully others can carry on what he started. Yi Jianlian has potential, but he needs to get on one of the big market teams for exposure.
