7 Train Gets Faster

I headed to Flushing today along with my aunt and sister for a small get together. For the next few weeks, the 7 train won't be running from Woodside all the way to Main Street. Instead, there's free service on the LIRR and that's perfectly fine with us. Our travel time was cut by 10-15 minutes each way. Usually alternate services are terrible and take much longer. Earlier in the year, they had shuttle buses to 111 Street and it made the travel time longer by 30 minutes because of the overcrowding. But we'll take free LIRR service anytime! It was just 2 stops from Main Street to Penn Station. The ride itself was a mere 18 minutes. It wasn't overly crowded. Everyone was able to sit. Surprisingly, the MTA employees were very prepared and did a great job of directing people to the proper entrances and exits. The 7 returns to normal service in March, so enjoy this while you can!

The above weekend service change is due to installation of a new signal system that will allow trains to stop at 74th Street during emergency track work. Previously, this major hub would always get skipped and customers would have to travel backwards to go forward. For more information regarding this matter, click here to visit www.mta.info.
